How Botox halts hair loss

1Before Botox

In a patient with pattern hair loss, the muscles surrounding the scalp are pulling on the galea aponeurotica, choking off blood flow to the hair.

2Botox is injected into the scalp muscles

With the nerves that drive the scalp muscles temporarily disabled, the muscles relax, immediately stopping the tension on the galea.

3The scalp can breathe freely without inflammation

The inflammation caused by chronic tension begins to dissipate, allowing the scalp to heal.

4Pattern hair loss is halted and possibly reversed.

As the inflammatory mechanisms that degrade hair follicles are interrupted, the process of hair loss is stopped in its tracks. Some regrowth of recently-lost hair thickness may occur, although advanced hair loss will not be revered to original levels.
